Where is the Ignition Switch on 99 Blazer LT 4.3?

My Blazer has inttermitent start. I took it in to a GM dealer to have the scans run and they told me Fuel Pump and Ignition Module. I replaced both, still won't start. If it's the Ignition Switch, where is it on this model? Has Security System but not Remote Start.

Remove the lower and upper plastic covers for the steering column, It will be on the opposite side of the key.

Go to the HOW TO/Technical info section of this section, there is a post with procedure for Ignition Switch replacement.

Good Luck

My Chiltons says you have to take the Steering Wheel off. The thread for replacement doesn't? Also is the Yellow Connector for the Airbag hidden behind any covers? I don't see it.

I don't think you have to. You won't know until you get in there and start taking things apart!

Nope. You don't have to take the wheel off to get to what you need to. Make sure the PK2 security system isn't being tripped first. The biggest mistake is to think it's a fuel pump, ign. circuit, or other things. Does the truck fire then stall like it's out of gas? If so, check to see if the security light on the dash flashes when this happens. Does the security light ever come on while driving?:??

The Security Light comes on when I open the door and flashes when it doesn't start. I have the covers off and ready to take the Ignition Switch off but can't find the Reverse Torq screws that hold the thing on. I found 1 (I think but it's regular Torq head) next to the Switch piece by the Key Tumbler. Can't find the other one. Anyone have detailed info on where the screws/clips are that hold the Switch in place?

I can only find 1 fastener that holds the Switch? The 1 I found is also a regular Torx head not reverse? I don't see another but the thing won't come out.

Why is it that you want to remove the switch? Are you certain this is the problem you have? Have you tested all the ignition and accessory wires to ensure they are getting the proper voltage? If that light is flashing when you try to start it, that is telling me that you have a PK2 failure. That can be from a faulty ignition switch but most of the time the decoder itself is the culprit. The only fix is to do my resistor trick or replace the decoder then relearn it to the BCM.

As it turns out, it wasn't the Switch. Enlighten me on this Resistor Trick you speak of?

Check all your sensor wires really close.

I was travelling last year and got dinged bad. I have a 99SE Blazer and it cut out on me on the highway. I dragged it to a dealership and they could not figure it out. They swapped out the computer and every thing and the same thing happened. So they put all the old stuff back on.

Turned out it was a wire to one of the sensors had broken inside the insulation and could not be seen. It would short out and on a windy road it would seem as though starving for fuel, then go away and run like a top. The last time I pulled up to a stop light it stalled and would not start.

Still cost me $400, with no replacement part, for the shop time to find it - tow included. Hahaha.

Good luck

Wire to the Crank Sensors? or what Sensors?

Wire to the Crank Sensors? or what Sensors?

Am not sure which sesor it was, but it was right on the engine. The break was between the computer and the engine in the engine compartment on one of the main harnesses.
