Windshield washer pump

Just another one of my post to help other shade tree mechanics out there.

My windshield washer pump motor went bad on my 1996 Corolla. Toyota replacement part would cost $72 plus tax. Auto salvage yard wanted $20 but they only had one for a 1995 Camry. Guess what, they're almost the same motor. Just make sure you get the rubber grommet that attaches the windshield washer motor to the washer fluid tank. The intake on the 1995 motor is larger then the one on the 1996 motor so the rubber grommet is sized differently, but the fluid tank hole where the grommet is inserted is the same size on both tanks. So the most important part of the switch is getting the rubber grommet with your junk yard replacement pump motor. The electrical plug connections are the same.

BTW to make sure it was the pump motor and not something else I checked to make sure I had 12 volts at the plug that connects to the pump motor. This tested OK. Then I removed the pump motor and attached a couple of small electrical leads to the motor and applied 12 volts to motor with my battery charger. Motor did not run.
