Sonoma stuck in 4low

My 98 Sonoma 6cyl with 3 button switch on dash shifted itself into 4low and now I can't get it out of 4l. I disconnected battery for an hour and when I reconnected it it worked fine. I went out next morning and same problem except when I disconnected/connected the battery it didn't work. When I press the buttons they just blink. I do not hear any clicking at the tccm at the passenger floor panel. I checked the vac hoses and the actuator and they all seem fine. Last week a couple of times while I was driving it would shift into 4h on its own. I was able to switch back to 2wd by pressing the buttons. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Sonoma stuck in 4low

Replaced encoder motor and now everything is OK. I was a bit confused because I did not hear any clicking coming out of the tccm but the new motor cured everything
