1992 Lumina Euro Fuel Filter Questionsunike32 11-16-2008, 04:52 PM About a week ago I started it up and after I had backed out of my spot it stalled. I didn't think much of it and it started back up. This week it began running a little rough and had absolutely no power. I think the issue is fuel related, and today went and bought a new fuel filter. I know where the fuel filter is, but I am curious if I need any special tools to unhook the fuel lines from the filter? I have already pulled the fuel pump relay and "fuel/ecm" fuse and tried starting it 3-4 times to relieve the pressure. In short: Are any special tools required to remove the fuel lines from the filter? On the new filter I noticed a plastic piece on the inlet side, so I have a feeling there's some special tool required to release it? vtwindave 11-16-2008, 07:06 PM a small screwdriver will release plastic clips, stick screwdriver in openings on fuel line flange. the other end is a 9/16 or 5/8 for the nut on fuel line and the filter is bigger, maybe metric, i have a oddball 19/32wrench that fits. (cresant wrench?). be carefull if you live in rustbelt as i do. the fuel line corrodes to the filter and won't break loose. the local parts stores sell replacement fuel line ends. cut old fuel line and install replacement with compression fitting. i hope yours comes apart easier than the last 2 i changed sunike32 11-17-2008, 12:30 AM a small screwdriver will release plastic clips, stick screwdriver in openings on fuel line flange. the other end is a 9/16 or 5/8 for the nut on fuel line and the filter is bigger, maybe metric, i have a oddball 19/32wrench that fits. I couldn't see the "nipple" end of the filter well enough to notice how the line attaches when I peaked under. I'll have to get it up on jack stands tomorrow and look. I know it wasn't an "unscrew" deal on that end. I'll hose the outlet side (with the bolt and metal fuel line) with PB Blaster early in the morning and hope for the best. So how does the plastic side release? Like I said, I didn't get a clear enough look earlier today to tell. Maybe when I see it clear it will make better sense. vtwindave 11-20-2008, 07:51 PM I live right smack in the middle of the rust belt...so I'm sure something will break when it comes apart. I sprayed mine wth pb last week and 5 days later the nut was still stuck in the filter, i took an air chisle and hit it on the flats of filter housing, then with a flare wrench wedged against floor I hit a 12 cresent (on the filter) with a hammer and then it finally broke loose. the filter nut size was 25/32. have fun vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
