P0741 O/D light flashing

Daughter has car on the other side of the state. Had her go to a tranny shop. They pulled P0741 and said there was a bulletin regarding low pump pressure causing torque converter slippage. Removal and rebuild $2400.
Having them flush fluid - that will cover their diagnostic fee $80.00.
Local shop where I'm at removed & rebuilt my windstar tranny for $1500.
Anybody have any suggestions, thanks. Think it will last about 180mi for her to drive home?

Re: P0741 O/D light flashing

For PO741 I have Torque Converter Clutch System Performance Or Stuck Off. TCC slippage detected or no TCC operation. Having it flushed and filled with ATF may help the pump maintain pressure. If it will hold a steady speed It should go 180 miles. If the slippage is excessive I wouldn't attempt it.

Re: P0741 O/D light flashing

Thanks for the reply. The O/D light currently is not flashing, she only drives about 5mi to work several days a week, maybe the cold fluild stays a little more viscous. Is there any additive that would help serve as a band aid?
The tech at the tranny shop said that removing the tranny itself is about an 8hr job. Has anybody done this themselves. I assume tranny, engine & subframe would have to come out of the bottom, maybe a winter project?

Re: P0741 O/D light flashing

I can pull one in about 5 hours. This is with a lift and power tools. 8 hours is probably flat rate time. Not for sure. You might try to Gunk Transmedic transmission treatment. 12 oz. bottle wouldn't over fill the tranny. It is claimed to provide positive extreme lubrication that won't wear or drain off. Says it's not affected by extreme temperatures. For $3.99 it's worth a shot. I wouldn't normally advise tranny additives unless you have a problem and plan on a rebuild soon. It will be a band-aid at best.

Re: P0741 O/D light flashing

We'll the car made it across the state without the O/D light flashing. Car shifts very smooth with no noticeable tranny problems. The one thing I did note was that the O/D button on the shifter does not appear to work, wonder if original flashing O/D light was a nuisance trip? Out of town shop changed fluid, I added some transmedic recently, plan on driving it the next several days.
