Re: Where is the EGR Valve on a Vulcun engine

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but what year of Taurus is it. I have 98 SE with the Vulcan engine. The EGR valve is located near the fire wall in the middle of the side of the engine mounted to the throttle body. Its a round disc shaped item with holes in the top and a plastic hose attached to a nib in the center of the disc. You might get a Haynes repair manual from the library for the year of Taurus it is and take a look there. There are usually pictures with instructions to check and/or replcae as necessary. Good Luck.

Re: Where is the EGR Valve on a Vulcun engine

Something for you to ponder with regard to a bad EGR Valve:

A common Ford EGR problem is really a bad DPFE (differential pressure) sensor. The DPFE sensor is part of the EGR system and senses EGR flow when the EGR valve is open. It provides a feedback signal to the engine computer so it can vary EGR flow to meet changing engine loads. The DPFE sensor is usually mounted on the engine and is connected to the pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve with two rubber hoses. When the sensor goes bad, the Check Engine light comes on and typically sets any or all of the following fault codes: P0171 & P0174 (lean codes), and/or P0401 (insufficient EGR flow). Nine out of ten times, the fault is not a bad EGR valve or a vacuum leak, but a bad DPFE sensor. A replacement costs about $120 at Ford, or about $50 at an aftermarket auto parts store...just in case changing out the ERG does not solve the prob
