Your car uses vacuum motors which move flaps to control the airflow.
You probably have a vacuum leak or disconnected vacuum line going to the heater/vent control unit.
If you can hear a hissing sound in the dash as the car is idling, then the leak is behind the dash. If there is no hissing, then the line is probably loose/leaking in the engine compartment.
