Can '96 transaxle be removed without pulling engine?

Hey, new to the site.

The car is 1996 Lumina. I have the Chilton manual and it says pulling engine/trans as a unit is the only method.

Anybody have experience pulling the transaxle who knows if it can come out by itself. Any advice on the easiest way to replace the transaxle, or perhaps a better guide than the Chilton?

TIA

Welcome to AF. You can use a tower to tower engine support, and just remove the trans. Check the how to at autozone.com, repair guides.
