Progress of R34 Skyline V-spec II

Hey guys, I finally got my digital camera back so hopefully I will be able to post more pics more often, and show everybody here that I actually do make models! :p

Anyway this kit is a Tamiya R34 Skyline GT-R V-Spec II. I bought this kit around christmas time and I haven't been working on it very much. I need some more paint because I ran out of the white paint I was using, so I might treat the few coats on it now as a undercoat for some coats of a pearl white paint, but we will see what happens, shall we?

The wheels are out of the Tamiya Toyota GT-1 TS020 kit and seem to have a nice fit :)
None of the suspension is done, so the wheels are just sitting in the arches. The interior is a mix of light grey and darker grey, which isn't finished yet.

Anyway here are the pics:

Edit: I apologise for the big pictures, but they seemed right at the time for my resolution size. Just tell me if you want me to make them smaller.

I finally have made some progress on this kit, and I decided to do something I haven't done on a kit before, cut off the doors (going to cut off the other soon) and hinge them. I used the "string" method to cut off the doors, so feel free to ask if you want to know more about the "string" method.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/150797000_0165.jpg

This picture shows some of the interior (I will take more when the interior is done) and it also shows the big gap I am going to need to fill with styrene for the door jambs

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/513087000_0166.jpg

And although this picture isn't clear, it pretty much shows the intercooler  .

I want to put a engine in it, but I don't have a clue where to get a skyline engine (I don't really like the idea of buying a R32 kit just for the engine) so if anybody can help me out by telling me where I could get an engine, I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Please feel free to critise, question or ask for more pictures :p

Looks great!!! Those wheels are from the TS020 arent they?

The string method-

I used Polyester (spelling?) string because that is the strongest I had. Make sure that you have a lot of it, because the string breaks quite often. Now with a long piece of string, get a grip of both sides and treat is as a saw blade and cut into the plastic using a back and forth motion until you get right through the plastic, or until the string breaks.

I can explain it will pictures and a bit more in depth if you want. (I still need to cut out the door, bonnet (if I can find a engine) and trunk (if I can make a box for the trunk  ) )

Yeah. The only problem is that I will most likely need wheels when I get to the TS020 kit :p

I was thinking the same thing, so I did some research.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_img_b/282000-282999/282997_49_full.jpg

The window trim is attached to the body in this picture, so I assume thats how most R34's are.

I finally have some more progress pictures.

Here are all the parts that are close to being finished, or I just wanted to show

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/988583000_0199_AF.jpg

Close up of the rear undertray (correct term?) and the intercooler.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/899974000_0200_AF.jpg

Interior, paint work a bit rough in places, needs to be lightly sanded smooth then repainted.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/715159000_0201_AF.jpg

Doors with interior door panels glued on, and wheels, I am undecided out of these 3 sets of wheels about which to use, suggestions anyone?

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/331696000_0202_AF.jpg

And the body, notice the putty on the front bumper, just filling in where the number plate goes, there wont be a number plate on the front.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/534812000_0203_AF.jpg

That is it for now, any questions and critisims welcome :)

I think I will use the 5 spokes. Although they come with the kit, they have the best look IMO.

Are you going to leave them chrome or paint them as they are on the 1:1 car.

They are just in a greyish plastic, so I will be painting them. I was thinking white or black maybe? What colour would they be on a real pearl white skyline? (that is most likely going to be the colour of the model).

use the wheels in the middle, i like them, thats what i used on mine

I am really on a roll here...most modeling I have done in months!

I cut the hood off and am waiting on the engine for it to arrive (thanks antonio!) and the exhaust is black, waiting to be painted silver/chrome.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/586748000_0206_AF.jpg

Doors, one with glass in it and the hood.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/760903000_0207_AF.jpg

A closer shot of where the hood has been cut off. The bottom of the front windscreen has the black bit which will seperate the engine bay and the dash.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/727566000_0208_AF.jpg

Here is what will most likely end up being my choice of wheels. What do you think?

I was thinking about opening the boot, building a box for it, but have it so the box can come out, to reveal a battery which are hooked up to some LEDs! :D

I think I might be getting a bit carried away

One thing I had forgotten to meantion, is that I put aside the stock intercooler, and I am making my own one, like in Chris' tutorial.

Go for it, its great to get a little crazy now and again, if your going for leds whynot add a sound system, open the boot add a sound box and put a small speaker in a base below the car, starting to scare myself here sorry! Cant wait to see this finished :ylsuper

So I have more updates (aren't digital cameras convienient :D ). The engine hasn't been glued in and the rocker cover hasn't been glued on the engine.

I just thought I should get a picture of everything closed :p . The black lines are rubberband things, they are the perfect size for holding bodies together.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/157142000_0246_AF.jpg

Front end picture, I will need to fill the gaps on both sides of the hood with sheet styrene, then sand it smooth.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/531671000_0247_AF.jpg

Rear end shot, Notice the straw mufffler and tip? One problem with making the exhausts out of straw is that the paint doesn't like sticking all that much :D .

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/733885000_0250_AF.jpg

Engine shot. The red rocker cover and other part at the front aren't glued on.

More updates as progress progresses. :)

I will try and take some pics tomorrow after school, but the really, all I did was cut the R32 chassis where the engine bay ends, and cut the R34 Chassis in the same place, then glue them together, although I might eng up having to glue the engine bay to the body, because the ride height is too high, and there is a gap between the body and the engine bay.
