Interior lights stuck on.

I have noticed a few postings about spraying wd-40 on the door switches, but those posts also said that their "door open" light was on. My interior lights, and the lights on my side mirrors stay on without a "door open" light on. Might it be something else besides the door switch?

Re: Interior lights stuck on.

Welcome to the forum!

What model year is your Taurus? I'm not sure if the mirror lights would typically come on if the interior light dimmer switch were turned all the way up to the "on" position....

Re: Interior lights stuck on.

I guess my previous question re: the dimmer switch still applies. Additionally, if you open a door, do you get the door ajar light so you know that works? What about if you open the trunk?

Re: Interior lights stuck on.

Ok so as for the dimmer switch, it has no effect on my side mirrors. I have it turned all the way down, and the side mirror lights still stay on. I took the bulb out of the interior dome hoping that would solve the issue of me draining my battery, but theres still the lights on the mirror. I was hoping that i wouldnt have to open my door panel to get to the connection in the mirrors. When i have my door open, the dash tells me that it is in fact open. I dont ever recall seeing an "open trunk" light on my dash, and i got no indication from my dash that the trunk was indeed open. I hope i answered your question about the dimmer switch. Again, thank you for your patience and reply.

Re: Interior lights stuck on.

I don't seem to have access to a wiring diagram for your 2004, but I did find a Technical Service Bulletin No. 04-6-4 that may be related. This TSB affects the 2004 Taurus and 2004 Sable. The issue is listed as: "Some 2004 Taurus/Sable vehicles may exhibit the dome light remaining on, multiple door ajar warnings, warning chime continuously sounding, and/or the luggage compartment lid opening."

The TSB claims that the factory scan tool must be used to monitor the Driver Power Window current PID. The issue apparently is a problem with the Smart Junction Box (SJB) and if the issue is found to be related to this TSB, the action is to replace the SJB and to install a jumper harness.

Is your Tarurus still under warranty? If so, you may want to make an appointment will the dealer. The dealer would not be obligated to cover the cost of a TSB repair, unless the vehicle is still under warranty.

For the time being, it appears there should be an interior lamp relay in the Central Junction Box (which may be the SJB - I'm looking at a wiring diagram for the 2002 model year) which controls the "puddle lamps" in the side mirrors as well as the interior courtesy lamps.
