can i save my 525i

I have a '92 525i that has been giving me the "trans program" for about the past two weeks. Whenever I saw it, I would pull over and cut the car off for about 1 minute, and she would work fine after that. About three days ago, I topped off the transmission fluid, but the slippage grew worse until today when the tranny gave out on me completely. Did I kill my car?? Is there a way to save her?? I love the car and want to save her, but realistically my budget is pretty tight. Any suggestions?

Re: can i save my 525i

The cheapest but riskiest way is Ebay or Craigslist for a used replacement. We had to go that route with our 325i. It worked for us.
Pick the biggest city near you so they know that you know where they live if they stiff you.
Or if you can mortgage your house you might find a responsible mechanic for rebuild.
Heck, George W Bush is handing out money, ask him!

Methinks it would behove thee to learn to work on thy bimmer thyself, friend, lest the local knave/mechanic rob thee of thy last pence.
Get a Haynes or Bentley book and "study to show thyself approved, a workman that needeth not be ahamed".
