1997 gp throttle bodyglc4122 10-17-2008, 09:46 AM i want to clean my throttle body screen on my gp, do you have to take of to clean or can you buy spray? what is the correct procedure, first time for myself. thank you richtazz 10-17-2008, 09:56 AM They make a specific throttle body/MAF spray. Don't use carb cleaner spray as it will ruin your MAF sensor element. You don't have to remove it to clean it, but you can clean it better with it off. BNaylor 10-17-2008, 10:32 AM To properly clean the throttle body inlet screen it is best to remove it since you want to get the backside of it. Remove the rubber air duct at the TB inlet. The screen is held in by a snap ring or c-clip retainer. Remove that and the screen will remove. As pointed out clean the MAF sensor wire element with MAF spray cleaner only or carefully with alcohol using a Q-tip. For the throttle body itself use throttle body spray cleaner like STP or CRC brands because other cleaners may damage the butterfly plate end seals. Also, clean the IAC (idle air controller) and the seat where it mounts to the throttle body. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/lizzywiz/iac_01.jpg Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
