1975 porsche 911 gas lid fix

Does anyone have any ideas about how to open the gas lid on a porsche 911 after the cable has broken. Mine popped at the gas station and I filled up but had to close the lid and now need to reopen it to replace the cable...Is there an easy safe method to reach in and reopen the lid from under the hood? Is there a tool that can be used to reopen the lid from outside?
Please advise..I appreciate it!
