1972 350 in 82 El Camino? Compatible?

1972 350 in 82 El Camino? Compatible?
I am pretty sure I threw a rod today in my one owner 1982 El Camino this morning. I found a great deal on a complete 1972 truck motor. Can anyone tell me if it will fit in my G body El Camino? If it will I would like to also know if there is any thing I should replace or rebuild while I have it apart. Motor Mounts, worked 350 turbo tranny, 10 bolt rear or front end stuff to do while it is apart.

some day I will complete it with an LT1 or TBI motor in lowrider fashion $$$$$$.

To get my self to work and back or hide a running 350 under the hood until I find a rat rod frame $$$$, is this a reasonable purchase?

I am going to try and pick the motor up Sat. Any advice will be very helpful.

Coop

There is no reason that engine won't work, as long as you transfer the computer stuff to it from the old engine (i.e. the intake, carb, distributor, any sensors etc).

Yah, Thanks for the response. It looks like from 71 through 85 are very close the same. I do not have to worry about emissions. Can I just run the motor like a hot rod or do I need that stuff for my trans to shift correctly. I know the rear main seal leaks on my trans. Is it enough to simply replace the seal or should I have it rebuilt replaced, torque converter while I am there.

Thanks again.
