I need a new alternator for my '99 SE, and I found a Napa house brand for $136 or a Bosch for $144 at Murray's. The Bosch comes with a lifetime warranty and the Napa comes with a 3 year. What's everyone's opinions? I think I'm leaning towards the Bosch, but I don't really know how good Napa house brand products are.

When the alternator went bad on my wife's car I used a local rebuilder who changed the diode pac for $50.00 and it still works fine about two years ago.
Napa's is better than a lot of parts stores products. My local rebuilder uses original equipment parts. They tend to last longer.

I'll second the local rebuilder. The last one I had done cost me a case of Mich golden. These guys now what the problems are and are typically on top of trying to make them better.

Go Bosch. For a few more bucks you never have to worry about paying for another one again. Other than the lifetime vs 3yr I prefer NAPA.

I bought a NAPA alt with a LLT warranty for my Taurus and was glad I did as it started to make noise from the rear bushing after 5k and now at 10k, it cannot provide enough output at low rpm with hi beams and ac on. Had it not been warranteed for life, I'd be out nearly $200 twice!!! Don't get a reman without lifetime warranty. If you plan on keeping it for a while, get a brand new one with life warrranty. I like the rebuild guys as long as all wear and electronic parts are replaced, ie. front and back bearings, volt reg, diodes, rect, brushes, etc. They won't warranty it for life, but it should last anyway.
