Power windows on a Escort

Hi

I've been to the junk yard and saw plenty escorts with power windows. Would it be possible to install power windows in my escort that does not have it? Would it be a simple wiring, and install job?

Re: Power windows on a Escort

It could be done. You would need to get the up-down switches off all the doors and get the window motors with the gear boxes intact. The regulators (part that moves the window up and down) would have to be replaced also. You may have to drill some new holes for the regulators, but that's about all the difference there is between the two. You already have a 30 amp fuse in the fuse box for power windows. The only problem might be finding good ones at the bone yard. One good thing about manual windows is that they aren't going to go out on you. I have manual windows and don't want to change over because it would just be another thing to repair. But, Yes! Its one of the easier things to convert on an Escort. While at the junk yard you could pull the wiring out, too and take note of how it's routed and you could have that taken care of. Oh! try to get the door panels with the switch already in them if you can find some that match your interior. All in all it sounds like a good weekend project.

Re: Power windows on a Escort

hi

I'll go back to the junkyard this weekend and see what they have, hopefully they'll have good stuff so i can try what you suggested. I'm really not to keen about the wire scheme, i dont wanna mess up anything. Is the wiring for the power windows already installed in the car so i can just connect them ?

thanks chris

Re: Power windows on a Escort

I have a 92 Escort wagon. While it does have a few wires in the harnesses for options it didnt have, such as a connector under the hood for the cruise control - it does not have the wires running into the door for power windows or power door locks. There were a few unused connectors hidden under the dashboard, but I never checked to see what they were for.
I advise lubricating any electric window mechanisms about each 5 years, using vaseline or similar stuff - so they dont quit on you in the lowered position in freezing weather. Of course lubing the manual mechanisms make them work better too.

Re: Power windows on a Escort

thanks for the reply guys, Davescort97 suggested i pull out the wires, but i'm not sure where i would connect them to. Maybe those unused connectors under the dashboard would help. Its a good idea to lube those things, i'll do that with some good lube oil..
