1982 heater/ac fan and cooloing fan not working
Hello,1982 GL wagon here, has AC, with the 1600cc engine with a carburator.
Apparently the fan for the heating / ac system just quit working. I thouhgt, ok, easy, it's a fuse. Wrong! The fuse is fine. I think maybe a relay?!?!? So I find them under the hood, test the wires, nothing changes. I was able to get the cooling fan for the engine on, which at that time it was working just fine. Go figure.
So my stepdaughter calls me, says her car is overheating and the radio quit.
I get over there, pick up the car which had cooled down at this point (45 degree weather), drive it home, and it's fine. Wen I get home, I notice that the cooling fan is not working now, this is an electric fan. So again, I check fuses, nothing wrong, I try to ground the wire again, the fan does not work. The radio quit when she turned on the lights (blew a fuse) replaced the fuse, radio was fine, but then it popped again.
Now I have had some funny things happen to a car, but never a heater fan go like this. There is absolutely no fan movement in the dash at all.
In the past, I had the luxury of working on VW bugs. I found that these had grounding problems, and can cause shorts. Not sure if this is the problem with this car or not, but I tell ya, it is driving me nuts.
I even went as far as going to a junk yard, getting some used relays, still the same problem. I find it very hard to believe that the relays that I got used, were also bad as well.
So, here I stand, frustrated and no way in hell is the heater or the cooling fans working now.
Anyone have any ideas? Also, I wnet to purchase these relays new at an autoparts store, they cannot find them at all. Maybe a dealer has them, but like I said, I have a hard time beleiving that the used ones were bad as well.
Anyone?!?!?!?
Please help!
Thanks in advance.
