Fuel Recommendations

I'm sure this question has popped up several times before but every where I read and everyone I talk to argues about this. What is the actual recommendation for the 2.0 engine? My wife bought a 2001 2.0 beetle and we have been using premium but with the current rise in gas prices she was wondering if she could use regular instead. I have heard all different opinions on this and we don't have the owners manual to look it up.

Any feedback is appreciated :-)

The recommendation here in Australia is to run on premium (97) as the NB is designed for this fuel. You can run it on E10 (95) or regular (91?) but performance and fuel economy will suffer.

Re: Fuel Recommendations

There should be a sticker inside the fuel door that tells you the octane to put in. My turbo requires at least 91 in order to prevent knocks and pings, so I just stick with premium.
