Hi All. I am new to expressing an audio problem to this website so please bare with me.

I was trying to install my door speakers in my 2001 Monte Carlo SS. The installation didn't go so well, so I am here asking what went wrong. The procedure I did as follows:

1. I took off my door panels on both doors.
2. I took off the both baffles (speaker holders with tweeter
support).
a. Factory door speakers.
b. Size 5 1/4 door speakers
3. I tried to replace the old speakers with some new
AudioBahn's door speakers (with tweeters)
a. The New Audio Bahn speakers came with the
following components:
- 2 Speakers
- 2 Tweeters
- 2 Crossovers
- 4 5(ft) Speaker Wires w/ connecters on each end
- 2 Mounting Rings
- 1 Pack of clips and screws for secure

4. I placed one speaker w/ tweeter onto the baffle for connection on
my passenger door.
5. Tried to connect from the door speaker harness to the speaker and
there was no sound.
6. I tried it with the tweeter by itself and it worked, but the speaker
didn't come on.
a. I've cutt the speaker wire so it can be screw on the speaker
(without the connector).
b. There was no harness on the back of the speaker for the speaker
wire connector to fasten too so i spliced the wires for easy
installation. Only the speaker wire, not the tweeter.
7. There was sound within the tweeter hookup by itself but when i tried
the speaker by itself, no sound heard.
8. I tried a speaker wire with connectors on both ends and the speaker
works.

Those were the steps and my question is: Why did the installation work with connectors but not with spliced wires for speaker installation?

Another Question:
I didn't have time to install the driver side door speaker so I replaced it with the old factory speaker that i had. I cutt the factory speaker's wire which connected to the tweeter so it can be replaced by the aftermarket speaker. By putting back the factory speaker on the door, i had to reconnect the wires (factory speaker with tweeter), so I can have 1. Sound again and 2. a clean installation.

My second question is: When I placed everything back onto the driver side door, the speaker didn't come on, why is that?

Everything in my car is stock except for the 6x9 speakers in the rear of my car.

Thanks for viewing!

I had the same problem in the past, check your wiring again. It is possible you could of have missed a step.

That's the thing, I don't know where to retrace my steps! So right now I am working off one door speaker (passenger side) and of course my rear 6x9's are working just fine. I will try it again today and see how far I will get during the progress and hit you back with more details.

If anyone is well aware of this curious information, reply back with the correct solution.

did you not connect the crossovers up ?

I left the crossovers out because in order for the crossovers to work, it had to be turned on by an amp and i didnt hook my subs and amp up for it to share the power with yet. All i am doing now is upgrading my door and rear speakers to aftermarket.

no no no ... those little boxes in the picture are passive crossovers. You will blow those tweeters very quickly without it. If you conected the midrange and tweeter in parallel to the fctory stereo, it's probably why it wouldn't put out any sound.

Yea, your right, because my driver side speaker will not come on for nothing. I knew those crossovers were important, I just thought I can bypass them. Only way to add the crossovers in is to install my subs and I haven't done that yet (will do later on in the middle of this week).
I do have a question though!

By the speakers in my front doors added to the factory headunit (with NO CROSSOVERS). Can I keep the volume down at a reasonable rate for the tweeter not to blow or it will blow regardless of the volume?

It's not just the volume, the problem is that the crossover blocks the lower freqs from the tweeter. So your tweeters are playin everything down to 20 Hz.

What do the passive crossovers have to do with subs anyway ?

In order for me to install the crossovers, I will need to hook it up through an amp right? Or, I maybe wrong! I just know the crossover has three outputs and they:
1. Amplifier
2. Midrange Speakers
3. Tweeters

I figure since that the crossover needs to gain power from the amp? Right! If not, please enlighten me on how it should be install.

the one that says amplifier is the INPUT. You can put the output of the factory deck into that input however, it will most likely not be very loud without a seperate amp

Duhhh!, Now i see, thank you! I wouldn't have guess that one. Like you said, I could have still hook up the crossovers.

Now I am having trouble installing my harness to my factory harness so i can channel the aftermarket harness towards the back of the trunk and plug my factory headunit back there!
