Talking Dumb question from a Cobalt newbie

I just bought an '07 Cobalt LT with an automatic tranny not too long ago, and I can't help but wonder (since I got no owners manual with it) what the two letters at the bottom of the shift stick line mean. I and L. I know it may sound like a simple question but I would really like to know.
