2005 Camry SE brake pedal travel

My 05 SE (4 cyl) with about 60K miles on it seems to have excessive brake pedal travel. Brakes work fine and the pads have plenty of life left. I flushed the fluid yesterday, so it has brand new fluid in it now. Made no difference. Old fluid was barely a darker color, more like yellow than brown.

Just seems to be a bit further to push than it should be. I also do not drive this car every day. So, maybe I am just not used to it.

Help? Thoughts?

Thanks.

Re: 2005 Camry SE brake pedal travel

I drive 2004 LE and from the day one the brake pedal seemed to be on the soft side. But in emergency, brakes work pretty well. This is a known issue.

Did it just get soft?

Re: 2005 Camry SE brake pedal travel

When my old Subaru brakes get soft I adjust the rears and then it is all fine.

Just a thought.

Re: 2005 Camry SE brake pedal travel

Thanks for your response. No, it did not develop suddenly. In fact, no one in the family who drives it has mentioned it. Just something I noticed when prepping the car to turn over to my son to head out to law school. The car has been most dependable otherwise, and I'm not sure this is anything really.

Somick, I am not familiar with Subarus at all. What are you adjusting on your rears? I have 4-wheel discs, FYI.

Thanks

I am not familiar with rear disks. I do not think you can adjust them.

Re: 2005 Camry SE brake pedal travel

My Dad owns a 2003 Camry 4 Cylinder (approx. 30,000 miles) and mentioned to me today he was thinking of bringing the car to the Toyota dealer to get the brakes checked because of the excessive brake pedal travel. He said he notices this issue more when he is backing up and braking.

Does anyone know if there is a issue with the brakes being soft of having excessive brake pedal travel for this generation (2002 - 2006) Camry? Does Toyota have any type of recall out for this issue? any help/advice is welcome. Thanks.

Regards,
JOET/CAMRY
