Remote Starter & PassLock II issues

I own a 2002 Chevy Malibu. I had a remote starter installed and since installation I have had numerous starting issues related to the Passlock system (the old "won't start, but if you leave the key in the ignition, it will start after 10 minutes" crap). I have read TONS of threads, trying to diagnose my exact problem and finally got the guts to remove the radio and ignition to see what the people who installed my started did to bypass the passlock (I always thought that since I had a remote starter, my passlock would HAVE to be disabled for it to work). I see that the "yellow wire" was cut, but was reattched to the black wire using a connecting wire. They actually attached the yellow side that was going into the dash to the black wire and left the cut piece of yellow wire going to the ignition loose. Could this be why I am having problems? If so, what can I do to remedy? Thanks in advance for any advice/info.

Re: Remote Starter & PassLock II issues

that is more than likely the problem there.
what alarm/starter model.
Is a bypass module installed or a resistor???
the yellow wire should not be connected to the black...that's stupid and poor installing.
start by reconnecting the yellow wire to itself and see if you get trouble key starting?...If not then the passlock needs properly bypassed.

this info and we can help you further

thanks

Re: Remote Starter & PassLock II issues

I don't know what kind of starter it is. I had it installed as a present. It was a starter & installation deal. I might be able to contact the place I had it done. I am really a novice at this kind of stuff. If I remove the connector they put in and try to reattach the yellow wire, should I do this while the car is running, or doesn't it matter? If I install a proper bypass, is there a brand name I should use? Where can I get one? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm a real rookie. Thanks!

Re: Remote Starter & PassLock II issues

Hmm, you absolutely sure the "car side" of the yellow wire is directly connected to the black ground reference wire? I can't believe someone actually did that. Usually they use something like a 556l bypass from DEI (directed electronics) but there are many others on the market as well. You should have them check that out.

If you want to try to diagnose this your self no, you won't need to have the car running when you put that yellow wire back it normal. Question though, does your theft light ever come on while driving?

Re: Remote Starter & PassLock II issues

Sometimes it's on, and sometimes it's not. Really strange.

Re: Remote Starter & PassLock II issues

Then the system is telling you there's a fault in the system and it's going into bypass mode.
