cant shift out of park

I have a 1990 chev 2 wheel drive pickup and all of the sudden it wont shift out of park I'm wondering if it has a park neutral safety switch and if so how hard is it to replace. or what could my problem be i took the linkage off the tranny and still it wont shift if i jack it up in the rear it still wont shift. if ya cant help i would be grateful

So even with the linkage disconnected from the transmission you can't shift the transmission by hand or you can't get the shifter to move? Sounds like a funny suggestion but do you have your key turned off of lock?

yep key on engine off it wont shift have tried everything except a shop i drove it to my front yard got out moved some other cars went to move it back and now it wont shift.
the column will shift with the linkage off the tranny so its in the tranny
