Re: 2.5 wants to die
If it runs ok while driving the fuel system is delivering quite a bit of fuel unimpeded. Low pressure, plugged filters, intermittent pump failures will all be noticed more at driving speeds where fuel consumption is maximized, in fact a thorough fuel system check always includes a “pressure drive test” where the fuel pressure is monitored at driving speeds, and full acceleration.
Two major culprits for dieing off at idle is 1.) Idle set point, (too low) as Freakray had said. 2.) Secondary ignition, plugs (& plug gap), plug wires.
Does it also start hard? Too wide of plug gap will cause this. Should start almost instantly 2-3 revolutions.
Last week had a plug wire that was causing the very same symptoms and throwing a CEL code. #2 misfire, duh! the plug boot on the end of the wire was empty! It had been damaged inside but looked perfectly normal on the out side, tell tale was no "click" when pushed on the plug.
