hey guys, i gotta problem i hope you can help me with. my 91 accord has this wicked vibrration between 55 and 80. Above 80 it seems to smooth out pretty nice. It is also vibrating a hell of a lot when you apply the brakes. I'm pretty sure it needs pad & rotors but the brakes don't explain the vibration that occurs when i'm not using them!! I know replacing or turning the rotors on this car is a big deal and i think i'll take it to a shop to have the brakes done, but i want to have the other problem fixed while it's under the knife. I'm thinking maybe the wheel bearings need replaced but any insight would be appreciated. The car has brand new tires so i know that's not the problem. Also i think the struts on the car are starting to go, could that cause the car to vibrate? It's got like, 218,000 on the clock. (still runs like a champ:D ) Please help me!

i have had the same problem on my car in the past, whens the last time you had your brakes done? does it feel like its pulsating when you brake? your rotors are probably warped

look for wormn out tie rod ends and worn out balljoints. mine stopped doing that after i changed the joints and the tie rods. i never got the vibration from the rotors thou even when i had a problem with them.

Okay, if my car does need ball joints, how hard are they to replace? Is it a driveway job or should i just take it to a shop? I usually try to do all my own wrenching cause it saves time and money, plus i love doing it, but i don't want to get in over my head here.

well it's pretty easy to do but you gotta have the joints pressed out and in by a shop. there is no way around it. i would totally mess with it and just take the knucles to a shop to have the joints pressed in

I had a prelude that seemed to be doing the same thing. I described it as...an accelration vibration between 70-80mph. It felt different from out of balanced wheels, and obviously wasn't the brakes....it ended up being the CV joints. The mechanic said it was the inner CV joints. I just replaced the whole CV shaft with a rebuilt one and it went away.

I now have a 94 Accord and just bought Haynes manual and when I looked up that specific symptom it said a possible cause could be CV joints. Seems like this is a problem with front drive cars(& Hondas).

My car has all new CV joints. That's probably not it. I'm considering having the tires checked to see if they're out of balance.

Check all of the above and the stablizer bushings as well.

I have the same problem in my 91 accord EX. I have replaced the bearings, tie rods, rotors and pads, tires, sway bar bushings, and CV joints but the pulsing and vibration will not go away. Any suggestions that could help me out? The car runs great and has excellent gas mileage so I really do not want to get rid of it.
