85 22re rebuild, any suggestions

after breaking down the head to replace a simple head gasket I have gotten a wild hair and am going to rebuild the entire engine. I can work an old pickup inside and out but have never done an engine before, is there a more reliable "complete rebuild kit" that has been found, also looking at just buying a new head ready to go from toyota car parts.com its is the "upgrade" not sure how it is upgraded yet. if someone has made a mistake and I could avoid it would be great to know about it... am open for suggestions

engnbldr.com has the best prices and service for 22R/RE parts, including heads. Ted is an expert and very helpful if you have questions.
