2001 diesel serpentine belt replacement ?

01 2500 diesel changed water pump and wanted to do belt at the same time. Double checked new belt, same size as old. I cannot get the new belt on!? The idle pulley just doesn't let me pull it tight enough to get the pin on the pully into the bracket. I even tried a longer lever and broke the end off of the socket wrench. I'm sure it''s something simple but I'm missing it. Yes I double checked routing and the belt is seated in all pulleys.
Thanks for the help!

Re: 2001 diesel serpentine belt replacement ?

What do you mean -- get the pin on the pulley into the bracket?-- certainly you know to mount all pulleys and idlers- then simply put a wrench on the springl oaded tensioner to pull it back and very simply and easily slip on the belt on the last pulley--best and fastest belt system known to man!!

I had an engineer once at work try to mount the tensioner with belt over it- and then try to start the bolt and rotate it into the pin hole-- what an idiot he was-

Duh, no matter what you can't adjust the nut in front of the wheel. I was trying to outhink myself and it worked. I simply put bolted the idle pulley all the way on and turned it the other way...and magic it works. Thanks for the help!
