Radio Speaker Replacement

Do I have to remove the door panel to replace the radio speakers in my 99 Ext Cab Silverado? Or is there a way to remove the large grill and not remove the panel? Tks in advance..

Re: Radio Speaker Replacement

and disassemble speaker out of its mount. they did very good job making it as aftermarket speakers unfriendly as possible. speaker is attached (bonded) to a large plastic ring that clips into the speaker mount. brace yourslef up - i am very strong and i had hardest time ever unclipping and ripping that speaker out.

if it makes khrr noises, try what i did - i packed fiberglass insulation between diffusor and the metal frame. took care of it on both sides.

Re: Radio Speaker Replacement

Thanks. I bit the bullett and took the door panel off. It was not difficult as I learned from another site how to.. I replaced the original (very low cost paper ones) speakers with a couple of better speakers I bought at Wally World. I couldn't use the original rubber mount so I drilled new holes and screwed the new 6.5 inch speakers into place in the original hole. it worked just fine. Both speakers were blown.. Thanks for the two responses..
