Exclamation Re: Stabilizer Links

I have a nearly identical issue here on my Acura TL-S 2002. A few months ago my car was badly rear ended on the left corner (hit and run). I brought it into the shop and dealt with the insurance agency and I thought that I would be getting my car back in the same shape that it was before the accident.

Two weeks later i picked it up and I immediately noticed that something was not right with the way that the car was handling... very unstable... very loose on turns... also felt unstable on the freeway... almost jumpy (still is).

So I got back in touch with my insurance agency and they insisted that the rear stabilizer link bar had been disconnected from wear and tear (ie driving over a pot hole) and that it was not possible for my suspension to be effected from the collision since the driver did not hit my rear left tire.... nothing suspension related was ever worked on since the tire was not directly impacted in the accident.

... this is going somewhere, i promise. So i went back to the auto body shop and I had to crawl under the car to point out the disconnected sway bar link (they had missed it a second time) and all of a sudden they are saying that it is possible that the accident caused this... 50/50 he says... and that I should have the insurance agency contact him so that he can argue my side. However, all of this comes after having replaced BOTH REAR tires because they BOTH had massive bubbles developing MOST LIKELY AS A RESULT OF THE BROKEN SWAY BAR LINK (the tires had less that 5,000 miles on them).

I have been waiting for Progressive to contact the technician and get back in touch with me.... i wait impatiently.

In sum.. I guess my question is: Is it possible that my rear left sway bar link was messed up from the collision even if my rear left tire showed no signs of being hit?

This sucks. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Regards,
Peter

Re: Stabilizer Links

Welcome to AF!!

It is quite possible for the links to have been broken or at least damaged by the accident. The car probably slid sideways when it was hit forcing the sway bar beyond its travel limit and bingo the links were damaged. I would say that Progressive should replace this but if not the cost to replace shouldn't be that much.

Also, please don't pull up old threads. Simply start a new one to ask your question.
