Loss of acceleration and smokeShenrynyc 07-14-2008, 08:31 PM I have a 96 camry v6. I was recently on the highway driving about 60mph and I suddenly had a major loss in acceleration and power. no matter how hard I pushed the pedal the enging would rev but the car would not go any faster. It actually slowed down. Also when I took my foot off the pedal the car wouldn't coast. It would slow down as if my foot was on the brake. After this point the car start smoking a little bit. Once I pulled over I noticed that the smoke was coming from under the front end of the car. at the bottom of the car right before the radiator. Possibly from the rack N pinion. Does this problem sound familiar? Mind you before this problem occured I did need work done on my steering and alignment. any help would be greatly appreciated. jdmccright 07-15-2008, 09:28 AM In the absence of any bad noises, I'd say you blew a head gasket on the front bank. I think your steering rack is a different issue....losing that would just cause you to have very difficult steering. I'd also check the transmission fluid. If it is brown, opaque, and smells burned it is overdue for changing. If it doesn't show up on the dipstick at all after wiping and reinserting it, you've run it out of fluid and may have burned up the tranny. Maybe someone else has a less expensive idea, but you're looking at some $$$ for repairs IMHO. Shenrynyc 07-15-2008, 10:14 PM Thanks for the info. I am going to have a mechanic look at it. I am not too hopeful of it being a smaller problem as far as the engine is concerned. Thanks again for the info vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
