91 Lumina Ignition switch problem

I did a search but didn't find anything related to my problem. So here's my problem.

With the key in the ignition I can still start the car. However neither the accessory position or on position work nor can I actually stop the car. This just happened last night so to turn the car off I had to yank out almost all the fuses to turn off the car completely.

So now the key can be removed in any position and can be freely turned about back and forth without any resistance. Actually I just got home from work and I was wrong about being able to remove the key from any position. It can only be removed from the correct position.

So after looking on Autozone for parts and instructions I just want to know if it's just the key lock part (easy part to replace) or the ignition switch electronics, which I will have to special order, (HOLLY HELL!! that's not going be easy) that needs to be replaced. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also forgot that the highbeam switch hasn't been working either and since the two switches come together I might want to just get the ignition switch anyways but if I can just get away with replaceing the cheaper easier part for now that would be great.

Re: 91 Lumina Ignition switch problem

Well I finally fixed that problem and it was neither the key lock cylinder or the Ignition switch even though I replaced both anyway. Turns out that it was a broken piece of metal that goes from the key cylinder to the ignition switch. Total pain in the butt to fix as I ended up having to remove the entire steering column in order to get the new one in there. Of course I ended up with another problem after that though.

Now with link to picture of broken piece.
stupid broken thingy
