86 Firebird VS 87 Camarobigboy123 07-13-2008, 08:37 PM Well we all know about the battle between these two cars and how similar they are in styling, but how about performance? Well the 87 Camaro RS Berlinetta has a 2.8 Liter V6 with multi-port fuel injection, and weighs roughly 3,006 pounds, Now the opposing 86-87 firebird also has a 2.8 V6 multi port fuel injection, and weighs roughly 3,756 pounds. So with the camaro being lighter it would win in a drag race, because it is 675 pounds lighter than the firebird, which will give the Camaro more bottem end speed. Both 2.8 Liter V6 engines push out roughly 135 HP. The Camaro hits 135 HP at 4900 RPM, Wheras the 86-87 Firebird pushes out 135 HP at 5100 RPM's, making the 87 Camaro have a better top end speed as well. One nice thing about the v6 Firebird is that it has the optional T Tops, and the flip up headlights, the Camaro v6 doesnt have the flip up headlights, they focused more on the front of the car to have that agressive or mean look. So basically in my opinion the firebird has nicer styling, but i have a 86 Firebird 2.8 v6 and its sad for me to say but statistics prove that the 86-87 Camaro v6 is quite a bit faster and has more power under the hood carguy666 07-13-2008, 08:47 PM You are exactly right on the Specs. Its kinda weird because my one friend has the firebird 2.8 v6 and my other friend has the Camaro 2.8 V6, i watched them race down the street from me. The Camaro won by like a whole 3 seconds. Mostly, because the camaro is lighter and will crank out more HP at lower RPMS than the firebird will. They are both very similar in styling though. But if your looking for power and speed, the Camaro is the way to go 72chevelleOhio 07-20-2008, 07:19 PM .....I think I'll make another screen name and talk to myself...:uhoh: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
