Honda starts when only cold.

I have a Honda Legend 1990 2.7mtr. Car was fine. Started and backed out of the driveway, it cut out and wont start.

Motor turns over, wont fire. Spark at plugs, fuel is pumping and we changed fuel regulator, thats all ok.

When really cold on a morning it will start and run for 3 seconds then cut out, wen its warmer during the day, no chance at all. Just turns over.

I have very little knowledge and about as much money Would appreciate any hints at what to try, look for or to do. Its been 3 weeks now and still no change or progress.

Really would appreciate some advice.

Many thanks.

make sure that the air filter is not restricted cause if a motor is starved for air it will not start but on a cold day the air is much denser and then check your idle air control valve and see if the bottom main pulley turns when the distributor rotor turns if not timing belt

Re: Honda starts when only cold.

try this...when the it doesn't start, watch the check engine light. the light should come on for about 2 seconds and then go off, after turning the key to the ignition on position (not cranking). if that does not happen. you may have a main relay or and ecu problem. main relays are known to go bad.

It's like the opposite of mine, it won't STOP when it's cold. Refuses to go into park.
