'90 Accord - coilovers

So my friend and I are putting coilovers on his Accord, and I've never really had any experience with the tuner suspension, so we are having some issues. He bought adjustable coilover springs and KYB shocks off Ebay, but the shocks seem like stock replacement ones more or less. Are there special shocks you have to get with the coilover springs, or should they work with any shock?
