Post Keyless entry key programing

Hi all,

Ok, who can help. I can't find it but I am getting close, I think. Any ways.

I have a working remote that is not staying on the key chain. So I bouht another from ebay. Can I program this new one without upsetting the other, not that it makes much difference. Also, are there various programings that can be chosen?

Help my eyes can't take the screen like they use to.

thanks

98-02 4runner remote setup

First, some background info. You will need to find the ECU for the
alarm/keyless RS3000 system. Mine is under the drivers seat. Looking
at the side with the connectors on it, there is a small button or hole
on the right-hand side. you will need to press the button or insert a
paper clip into the hole to press the switch inside, following the
instructions below. The Status Monitor is the the Red LED light on the
dash that says "security" under it. This procedure seems quite simple,
although the manual still advises one to contact a dealer to do it. It
sure isn't worth $76! Be sure that you follow the procedure exactly or
there is a chance that you might mess up the programming of the
original remote. If that happens, just follow the procedure again to
add the remote back to the system.

1. Insert key into the ignition switch and turn to "ON".

2. Press and hold the ECU's programming switch for 3 seconds.
The Status Monitor LED turns on for 5 seconds.

YOU MUST PERFORM THE NEXT STEP WITHIN 5 SECONDS!

3. Press and release the remote control's top or bottom button
(whichever one you want to operate the system).
The Status Monitor LED turns off.
The Piezo "chirper" chirps once.
The exterior lights flash once.

4. Turn off the ignition. The ECU will now operate with the remote
just programmed.
good luck :-)

Unhappy Keyless programming

I have my first 4runner and like it (1998). It did not come with remotes. I tried to activate the program mode with no luck. After the lock/unlock sequence and the hokey pokey nothing happens. I also pressed the button on the unit and the red light does come on but after pressing the remote I don't get the chirp and flash. The remote I have has 3 buttons in front and panic on the back. Am I missing something? Can someone offer assistance? I could use a little.
Thanks,
deoodles

That is IF your 4Runner has a security system. Mine doesnt as far as I can tell. I've searched around the web a lot and I've found the same method. PLUS I called my dealer and they said the EXACT same thing as this:

open drivers side door
stick the key in the ignition then pull it out
lock and unlock the door 5 times (making a total of 10 button pushes)
shut and then open the door
lock and unlock the door 5 times (making a total of 10 button pushes)
stick the key in the ignition and turn to on then off then on then off (this can vary from 1, 2, 3, or 5 times. try them all)
pull the key out of the ignition
you should hear the door locks go clunk clunk (lock and Unlock)
press the two top buttons on the remote for 1 second
then press the unlock button by itself for 1 second then repeat the pressing process for the second remote

This has not worked on my 4Runner yet, but Im going to try a few more times before I get the Dealership to do it (70 bucks, yikes! )

Sha_Zapple - did you use the key to open the locks or just press down the button?

Re: Keyless entry key programing

Does anyone know how to disable the chirps when locking a keyless entry system from the remote? Just purchased a 2004 SR5 and they want me to bring it back in.

Re: Keyless entry key programing

I would like to disable my remote chirp too. I don't have the security system, just the basic keyless entry. The book says the volume can be adjusted, even quieter would be nice, but it says you have to take it to the dealer. I'd rather do it myself!

Maybe I'll get them to change it when I go in for my free oil change. But I'd rather know how to do it myself if possible.

Re: Keyless entry key programing

I'm having the same problem! I have a remote for my 98 4runner Limited that isnt programed, the car doesnt have a security system, and I can't figure out how to program it to the car. I really want to try to avoid the dealer cost, which seems way to high! If you find anything out PLEASE let me know. Thanks!

Re: Keyless entry key programing

The problem a lot of times is that some 98 4Runners may use the 97 style BLACK remote, where some 98 4Runners use the GRAY remote.

They are both FCC: BAB237131-022.

Programming those remotes does not involve any of that 5 presses of this button or that button as shown above.

If you have the receiver, its under your seat and you push in the little green program button.

The procedure is:

1. Insert Key and turn the ignition to "ON."

2. Press and hold the ECU programming switch (tiny green button) for 3 seconds.

- Your LED light (should be on dash somewhere) will turn on for 5 seconds.

(YOU MUST PERFORM THIS WITHIN THOSE 5 SECONDS)

3. Press the top button on the remote(s)

This is direct from the original RS3000 owner's guide manual.

Re: Re: Keyless entry key programing

My 98 4runner Limited doesn't have the security system option, so there isn't a reciever box underneath the seat. That seems to be the problem I'm running into. But as far as I know the vehicle did come with keyless entry, but the remotes are lost (so im told at least). Also I purchased a remote off ebay that seems to be originally from a 99 4runner; because of the rear window button one the remote, but yet again I was told it will work for the 98 too. I'm thinking maybe these people (ebay seller and used car dealer) are telling me things that are wrong! Help!

Re: Keyless entry key programing

You CAN NOT program a 99 4Runner factory remote to an 98 - completely different receivers.

The 98 only had the RS3000 system, where the 99 remote with the sliding window button is for the Toyota factory system.
