1992 dodge 150 w/318 no spark

this was my most reliable vehicle !!! it was running great, parked it in the drive and got back in it hours later and it would not start.. turns over great!!!
i checked for spark at the coil and found nothing , checked primary side for voltage and got 8 volts across it with v.o.m. , check grnd to engine block and had 0 ohms,, checked hot to engine block and got 11.6 volts ?????.. checked relays on drivers fender and they appear to be ok (2 of 4 are clicking).. wiring on inner fender at fusible links appears to have been hot so i checked it for continuity and it was ok .. i cannot locate the crank sensor does mine have one ??? is there anyway to test the "hall effect" in the distributer???HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!! thanks

check to see if the rotor button turns as someone cranks it over. if it doesn't turn its the timing chain.if it turns check the timing to see if it has jumped time.have also seen the coil strap on top of the rotor button be bent so it doesn't touch the coil point inside the distributor cap.

This is the first Dodge I have owned and so far not real impressed with the engineering .. thanks for the replies ...

It sits close to the transmission on the back top pass side of the engine. It has two mounting bolts and a plug. Be very careful and don't break it. I would use some penetrating oil before you pull it out.

Put a test light on the coil ground it should blink when trying to start the engine. If you find the correct two wires an Ohm meter should go from zero to one as the engine is turning on the distributor. Both the crank shaft sensor and distributor are fed 8 volt from the computer same wire. If you have a amber light on a logic probe check for a pulsed signal.

Re: 1992 dodge 150 w/318 no spark

thanks for the info . the grnd does not appear to be pulsing , i have replaced the crank sensor and the cam sensor .. is the ignition control unit a common cause of this symptom ???
