OMG!!! My car broke down! 76 Gasoline probable cause?!?
Hey guys,
I was driving to college in the morning at 6:45 AM....all of a sudden, the car wouldn't go anymore and the gear would NOT change. Then the car just shut off all of a sudden.
We tried starting it again after many tries and got it going again....unfortunately it shut off again, and this time permanently. We had to push it all the way to the nearest gas station so a mechanic could take a look at it.
Here were the results:
1)The battery would not recharge. Only about 5 volts. When attached to a charger, it gave still only 11 volts...not enough. Car would turn on but not stay on if we took off the charger.
2)The mechanic said the little motor (whatever its called) that recharges the battery is not working and needs to be replaced. In addition, the "CHECK ENGINE" light was on too. He said it would cost me around $300 to get this thing fixed.
3)Took it to the dealer's mechanic and he said that it will cost around $600 to get it fixed (and its being fixed as i am typing this and it should be ready by TOMORROW). The dealer's mechanic said the gasoline from 76 caused problems with the engine, so I should not pump gas from 76 anymore. Is this true?!?
4)Basically the car just had NO POWER to do anything....it would turn on WITH a help of another car giving power to battery but it would not stay on even if I gased it...
I will have much more details tomorrow hopefully, but right now i am wondering why the heck it costs $600 to fix that! I was also told that the little computer or whatever needs to be replaced tomorrow so the check engine light goes away. The parts are ordered already and will be put on tomorrow. My poor Honda
Guys, be careful about what gas you put on and be prepared for anything! Thank god I had the "Road Side Assistance" card with me and a cellphone!
