74 ghia engine trouble

my motor has locked up. im pretty sure my starter bendix has stuck in my flywheel. however i cannot remove the starter, i cant get a wrench around one of the bolts. is there a trick to removing the starter, or does the engine have to be pulled?

Re: 74 ghia engine trouble

First disconnect the battery
remove the right rear wheel and jack up the car, and support with stands.
then disconnect the terminals from the starter
Then using a 17mm wrench, unscrew the top nut from inside the engine bay on the firewall.
Then unscrew the bottom.

The starter should pull right out.
