Front sway bar broken?

I just had my car in to get the oil changed and rotate my tires. Overheard the owner of the shop say that they have had a few W chassis vehicles have the front sway bar broken. Anyone have this happen yet?????

Mine was as good as broken, it had split in the middle, couldve broke at any time, used it as an excuse to upgrade.

Looks like the responses have stopped, I guess this one has virtually ended.

Re: Front sway bar broken?

Whats interesting is that its actually cheaper to upgrade the front than it is to replace it with OEM specs. At least from GMPD it is anyway, I dont know where those folks got their replacements.

Re: Front sway bar broken?

stupid question...how do i tell if the fronts are bad? When i was doing the wheel hubs i grabbed the sway bar and tried to feel for any movement or noise...there was none. The rear sway bar feels the same..., but the car is awful noisy going over bumps in the road...

Re: Front sway bar broken?

Bad struts could make a lot of noise going over bumps and such, could be a few different things.

My personal opinion is that a sway bar is working fine unless its broken, youll be able to tell its broken by the broken-ness of it haha.

Re: Front sway bar broken?

I hope that isn't a stuppid question because I was wondering the same thing. I wouldn't know if my sway bar was broken or not. I have some clunking and banging goig on in the front. It was checked by my mechanic but he didn't find anything except a wheel bearing with some play. Replaced it but still the same banging. Maybe it could be the sway bar?

Re: Front sway bar broken?

Here where im at my sway bar is broke completly off down at the end just before the endlink. The endlinks are fine tho. Ive been driving it like this for 3 months or so the inspection ran out end of may and it didnt get inspected yet beacuse of that and the stupid garage said it will be 6 weeks to get one. But I need one now I figured going to a dealer it would cost alot to get one so where should I get one at.

Re: Front sway bar broken?

GM PartsDirect is where I would get one.

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...es=1&pkgid=121
Thats a link to the entire performance package I have installed, BUT if you scroll down, it also has the individual pieces. So if you just wanted to do the front you would want part #12498643

It is actually cheaper to upgrade the front sway-bar than to purchase a new one of original size.

Price of upgrade bar before shipping- $54.08
Price of original size bar from GMPD- $94.88

Im also not even sure if the original one comes with new bushings, but the upgrade does. Its an easy install as well, you will have to take a tie-rod end loose on one side though, and an extra set of hands to help guide the bar through is very nice.

Re: Front sway bar broken?

Mine is broken on both ends just before the end links. The ends appear to be laminated with the bottom 1/2 broke on each side. Guess I know my next project.
