What are the steps in removing the rear bumper? Does anyone have a exploded view of the rear bumper assembly?

Take the rubber tips off first. Then unbolt it.

You do not need a diagram for this job. Very simple.

Everything is metric.

Re: 2001 jeep cherokee

Just did this project to replace some stuff on my hitch. While it isnt "easy" its not that difficult either. First remove the end caps as stated. The problem with the bumperh is that the bolts are not easy to get to. There are four bolts holding the bumper to the brackets. Two on the bottom which use the clips that ALWAYS break. I started to take these off, one broke so I went a different route as the other two bolts are mounted way inside the bumper and I didnt have the tools necessary to reach them. I chose to remove the 8 bolts holding the bumper brackets to the unibody frame. This was accomplished with standard size socket wrench and socket. 14mm I think. Its a tight fit but all the bolts came out and none broke which was a bonus. Once those 8 bolts are out the bumper will fall right off into your lap. Good Luck.
