1996 Camry Diagnostic Port

IS there a trick to my diagnostic port? I jump ports and nothing happens. Specifically, I was trying to jump the diagnostic tool (TE1 to E1 if I remember- whatever it is I followed the manual), but can't get the check engine light to blink. Plus, when I try to jump the fuel pump, There is only a metal connection in one of the two ports I have to jump. Is this normal, or did the previous owner break the diagnostic port?

Re: 1996 Camry Diagnostic Port

Your engine requires a code reader (OBDII) to download the codes from the ECM. You cannot jump terminals on your engine, only 1995 and previous 4 cylinder, and 1993 and before V6.

Re: 1996 Camry Diagnostic Port

So, is there another way to run a sustained test of the fuel pump/line pressure?

Re: 1996 Camry Diagnostic Port

You need to connect battery voltage directly to the fuel pump terminals (+ to fuel pump terminal 4 and - to fuel pump terminal 5). Terminals 4 and 5 are the two in a pair below the set of three. Looking from above to the installed pump, with 4 and 5 closest to you, terminal 4 is on the right and 5 is on the left.

Connect the wires to the pump first, then connect the wires to the battery to prevent arcing that may start a fire. Don't run the pump for more than 10 seconds at a time.

Re: 1996 Camry Diagnostic Port

Well, looks like I'll be pulling my rear seat out one way or another, so I'd better get started....
