Cannot hold an idle - Keeps dying

Hello,

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L Supercharged (GTP) that just stopped on the highway. No signs at all, it just died. Now it doesn't want to stay on when I turn it over. The car goes on and then just shuts off, it doesn't stay idling. If I floor the gas it stays on but if I try to hold it at about 2000 RPMS it also dies. I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, regapped the spark plugs and there are no DTC codes. I also checked for spark at the coils and they have spark. During the process my battery died one morning and I have replaced that also. I have checked all of my vacuum lines and they all seem to be fine. I have also removed my TPS, MAF, IAC and IAT to spray them down. Now since I don't have any codes, what should I do next? I am really at a lost here, please help me out.

Thanks

Re: Cannot hold an idle - Keeps dying

Based on your symptoms unless you did it earlier try bypassing the fuel pump resistor. See link below.

Another possibility is a bad MAF sensor. So disconnect it (ignition to off first) and then see how driveability is.

And welcome to AF.

Re: Cannot hold an idle - Keeps dying

Thanks BNaylor, I immediately tried editing (bending) the relay and turned the car on and it stood running, so off to order a new FUEL PUMP RESISTOR...

Well at least now I have a new fuel filter, fuel pump and fuel pressure tester.

Thanks again BNaylor

Bob, just wondering if you know any good sources for a fuel pump resistor?

Tim, the most commonly used source is PFYC.com (see link) or the GM Dealer. Also, there used to be a kit that moved it to within the engine compartment but I don't know if that is available anymore.

Hmmm, thanks! I was just wondering as its probably among the next to be replaced on my GTP.... I've had all the other GP notorious problems, why stop now?
