Thumbs up Skipping Engine FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finely The 1999 Camry 6 cyl is fixed after replacing the plugs the wires. Replacing the VSV valve due to a PO446 code. I had a very intermittent skip and the idle would sometimes be very rough and go from 700 to 1000 rpm and some time not even idle at all. This weekend after chasing vacuum leaks (none found) in a fit of rage I hit the intake with a wrench and the idle when back to normal? I drove the car and it broke aging so I did the same and It was fixed aging. After many attempts I found that tapping on the EGR valve would fix the problem the EGR valve would stick open. I lube the EGR valve shaft and it worked for a few days but finely replace the EGR valve $149.00 at NAPA. Just thought I would let everybody know one of the fixes.

Re: Skipping Engine FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the post!

So the P0446 code was fixed with the new VSV valve, but fluctuating idle was not? And new EGR valve fixed your idle problems. Did I understand it correctly?

Re: Skipping Engine FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats correct. If the engine is flucuating The EGR valve is introducing Exhaust gas in the intake at idle. Causing fluctation. Tap on the valve with a screw drive or wrench. Chances are the valve will close and the car will idle fine?
