2000 Astro Security Light

I recently had my Astro re-keyed. Since then, the security light comes on several minutes after I start the van and remains on until I key off. Can this cause the black box to disable the vehicle? I am planing a long trip and don't want to get stuck in the middle of the desert. Thx. tom@marinefire.com

Re: 2000 Astro Security Light

You are running in the "fail-enabled" mode- you have a security code set- whomever re-keyed should be able to read and interpret the code...

Lightbulb Re: 2000 Astro Security Light

The van was (and is) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when the keys were stolen. The local dealership doesn't do keys so they refered me to a locksmith that does not have a code reader. I have to drive the van to the States and can take it to the Chevy dealer when I get there but I am concerned that this situation might tell the computer to shut down the van in the middle of the desert. Can that happen? tom@marinefire.com
