2000 F150 5.4L Fuel Economy

Hello,
2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L owner here. Needless to say gas mileage is killing me on this truck right now. There's a nice '00 F150 5.4L w/ 90,000 miles for sale in my area, just wondering what the typical gas mileage on this truck would be compared to my Dodge, I get anywhere from 8-10 MPG towing my boat to around 12-13 MPG mostly highway. I have almost 93,000 miles on my truck. Thanks.

I had a 2003 F150 5.4 that got about the same mileage that you are getting. I would guess the 2000 would be about the same. My 2cents.

Fords get the worst MPGs and the 5.4 is a very bad gas hog.

Thanks, good info. Anybody want to chime in that knows what the MPG's for the 4.6L option would be? Or is this too wimpy to pull things with. Thanks again.

My brother just sold his f-150 with the 5.4 Liter..Because of the very bad mpg. also he had to replace 2 coil packs,, 100 bucks for each cylinder. I dont know why they quit making the 351w, because it didnt help ford out.

Re: 2000 F150 5.4L Fuel Economy

well i have an '01 f-150 supercrew with a 5.4 and i have 70,000 on it, was getting about 14 then i changed the plugs and fuel filter and now i am getting 15-16 mpg. thats not beating on it and I tow a 29 ft. travel trailer weighing 5,600lbs. and i get about 10 mpg towing. as for replacing coil packs, you are crazy to pay 100 a piece when advance auto parts and napa by me carry them for about $40 - $50.

Re: 2000 F150 5.4L Fuel Economy

Thats great mpg for a 5.4. We live in a small town of 3,500, and one parts store thats why they cost so much. I will say the 5.4 is a great power plant. I pull a 24 ft- 5,000 lb camper with a 90 ford with a 300 6, it does a great job, although I only get 10 mpg pulling the thing, with ac on . It with no load is only getting 15 to 18 mpg .. So I see newer is better that way. I'm buying a newer one with the 4.6 hopefully it tows good.

Hey, thanks for all the info. Guess I'll need to start a new thread on the 4.6L, or can I assume a few more gallons both towing/daily driving with that power plant?
