intake/exhaust question

If I install a cold air intake and good mufflers on my GP will that make a noticable difference in gas milage? I am getting 16-17 mpg now. I would like to get around 23-25 out of it.

It is a 2007 GP GT with a supercharged 3800. It is all stock.

16-17 isnt any good, is that your calculations or the DIC?

Unless you drive like a grandma, you can realistically expect no more than between 19-22 MPG in city driving. IMO, the CAI will not help your mileage one bit.

Tim, in 06-07, GM dropped the GTP name and called the Supercharged model a GT, most likely to avoid confusion with the v-8 equipped GXP model.

It gets 16-17 average all the time and my wife drives it very sensably. She dont run it like it wants to run unless she is passing. Thanks for the info but I cant touch it for 5 years unless I want to void the warranty. I guess I will just put some money in my jeep then.

The '04 and up GP models have been known to get less than satisfactory gas mileage for some unexplained reason.

What are the driving conditions? Is this in city, highway or a combination? A lot of variables to consider. Are you using premium gas at least 91 octane or better?

Good decision to hold off on mods until after 5 years.

it is used in city and highway driving. we run 92 octane fuel.

Holy crap! Your GP gets the same gas mileage as my mother's '98 Tahoe! How much do those new GP's weigh??? I have an '00 GTP and I average 22.3 MPG. I've put on a cold air and did a cat-back exhaust and didn't really notice a difference in gas mileage. Having your engine nicely tuned, making sure simple things like air filter, fuel filter and the like are current really helps the most from what I've seen on my car.

tblake, what does your DIC say your average MPG is?

right now my DIC says 27.1. Thats combined highway and city.

In city stop and go its usually a lot lower, but on highways i've gotten as good as 37-38 after its leveled off. Not kidding. Its usually around 32-33 though

00 gtp4me how do you get that kind of mpg out of yours when it is basicly the same as what I have but a little older.

As far as a tune up it only has 23000 miles on it and shouldnt need tuned up yet. My grand cherokee gets better milage than my GP and it has 120000 miles on it.
