Trouble starting when warm; occasional shut down when driving

I have 2000 Olds Intrigue with 160k+ miles. Since it has been warm, my car starts fine first thing in the morning. After a few errands, the car takes a few attempts to start. A couple of times, the car has either died while driving or attempted to shut down (stumbled) as the car downshifts like on rolling hills. At first I thought it was the ignition module but the occassional shut downs have me thinking it could be the crankshaft sensor. There are no codes (checked with a OBD II scanner).

First is this a symptom a cranshaft position sensor going bad? Second, can a bad CPS affect gas mileage? It appears I have lsot 1-2 mpg since this hard starting has begun.

Thanks.

Definetely symptoms of a CKPS. As for the gas mileage, I think its entirely possible, because your timing isnt up to snuff as it should be if that sensor isnt working properly, so the car isnt running as well as it could. Thats just opinion though.

Re: Trouble starting when warm; occasional shut down when driving

I had the same issues before my CKP sensor went bad last fall. I eventually saw codes associated with it but not for some time. None of these symptoms have resurfaced since changing the sensor out. I did not notice any change in gas mileage after changing it but I have heard of other people who did.
