2001 Jimmy A/C

OK, I couldn't leave well enough alone...

After recharging the A/C on my 93 Toyota, I figured I would check my wife's Jimmy. Pressure was ~35 psi. I figured it couldn't hurt to add a few ounces and get her up to ~40-42 psi (right below the 45 psi line on the DIY gauge I bought for my Yota). So I added until it was right below the Yellow line on the guage and disconnected the gauge.

I immediately knew something was wrong because when I took off the gauge, the schrader valve hissed. I (wrongly) assumed the valve had a "blow off" point and I may have gone a bit above the rating. Obviously this is wrong because over the next three days, her A/C slowly went from icy cold to warm at best. The accumulator has oil residue on the lower portion, which I am assuming is from the slow leak at the low pressure schrader.

Now when I put the gauge on it, the pressure goes up to ~63 psi when the compressor is on and drops to ~20 psi when the compressor is off.

What the hell did I do?

Re: 2001 Jimmy A/C

Just by way of follow up after looking at it again in daylight...

I don't think the "oil" on the acuumulator is really oil. I believe it to be residual coolant from when the intake gasket blew a couple of months ago.
