2003 F150 CD Player

Hey Guys, Dad just bought a new (used) 2003 F150xl and he wants me to install a factory cd player. It currently has a factory tape. I am knowledgable enough to do the install myself, just was wondering if anyone could provide me with a part number for the radio so I dont order the wrong one. Thank you!

Re: 2003 F150 CD Player

I'm not 100% on this, but you should just be able to get a stock cd player from any 1997-2003 f150 and fit in. Now, I may be a little off in the year-range, so it may be something like 2000-2003 or 1999-2003, but it shouldn't matter as far as the part number goes. Be sure that you have a removal tool take out the tape deck. You should be able to pick them up at an automotive store, or you can do like I did and use a metal coat hanger. The removal tool will be 2 U-shaped metal wires that will fit in 4 holes, two on each side, on the front of the tape deck. Remove the plastic bezel from the front that surrounds the tape-deck and the a/c-heating controls. You should be able to pry up on one part of it and pop it out. Unhook the passenger-side airbag control wire and set the bezel to the side. Slip the removal tools into those 4 holes on the tape deck, pull to the sides, then slide the unit out and unhook the wires. There should be 2 bundles of wires that handle things like speakers and dimming and then your antenna wire. Installation of the new unit will be reverse of removal, minus needing the removal tool. Just hook-up the wires and slide the unit in. It will lock into place. Then hook the airbag wire up, pop the bezel back on and you're good to go. Sorry if I went on and told you completely how to do it if you already knew... just thought I'd help out in case you didn't. Good luck!

Oh, BTW, a good source of info might be looking on ebaymotors for a cd-player. Usually listers will include the year-range that the part will fit.

Re: 2003 F150 CD Player

Thank you sir!

You just answered my next question... removal installation!

Really appreciate it!

Found one on ebay I'm going to bid on in a couple days.... from an f150 it looks similar to the tape deck in there now, just its a CD, so I'm hoping it will work. If not I'll just ebay it back and eat the losses. No biggy!

Re: 2003 F150 CD Player

No problem. Just an addition to the removal instructions above, when you pop out the bezel around the tapedeck, the 2 vents will also come out with it, so don't be alarmed as they just slide in and out and are attached to the bezel.
