Timing Belt or Chain?

Does anyone know if the later Prisms (2001-2002) have a timing belt in them that requires changing or does it have a timing chain ?

If it does have a timing belt and it breaks - what happens? Does it damage the engine?

Re: Timing Belt or Chain?

Most have gone to a chain.
But watch for them throwing in something that does have a belt.
Always run the year and engine size and code.
For any that do have belts Gates web site has a belt applacation and interferance charts.
Good Luck
MT.

Re: Timing Belt or Chain?

From 1998 when they left the Geo name to Chevy to 2002 the 1.8 has a timing chain
